1. Service Direction

iCoreHosting aims to provide transparent and accurate information on MYNIC domain behaviours to help clients avoid unnecessary downtime or redemption fees. MYNIC expiry and suspension behaviour differs from international domains, and customers should plan renewals proactively to prevent service interruption.

2. MYNIC Domain Lifecycle (Accurate Timeline)

2.1 Registration Period

  • Registerable for 1 to 10 years.
  • Domain remains fully active during this period.
  • Clients should monitor expiry dates to avoid accidental suspension.

2.2 Renewal Grace Period (≈ 30 Days)

Important: MYNIC may suspend DNS, website, or email immediately upon expiry. “Grace period” only ensures renewal at normal price — NOT service continuity.

  • ≈ 30-day grace period for standard renewal (no penalty fee).
  • Services may stop immediately after expiry depending on MYNIC behaviour.

2.3 Redemption Period (≈ 30 Days)

  • If not renewed during grace, the domain enters Redemption Period.
  • Domain becomes inactive and cannot resolve any services.
  • MYNIC charges:
    • RM300 redemption fee (fixed by MYNIC)
    • + Standard renewal fee
  • Restoration only possible within this redemption window.

2.4 Pending Deletion (≈ 5 Days)

  • No renewal or modification allowed.
  • Domain will be permanently deleted after this stage.

2.5 Domain Deletion & Re-Availability

  • Once deleted, the domain becomes publicly available for new registration.
  • Registration is first-come, first-served.
  • High-value domains may be taken instantly by third parties.

2.6 MYNIC Domain Categories

  • .my – General use
  • .com.my – Commercial / business
  • .net.my – Network / infrastructure
  • .org.my – NGOs, non-profit
  • .name.my – Personal identity
  • .biz.my – Business use
  • .edu.my – Educational institutions only

3. Common Mistakes

  • Assuming website/email will continue working after expiry — MYNIC may suspend immediately.
  • Not checking who owns the MYNIC login/contact — often kept by ex-staff, old developers, or agencies.
  • Believing “grace period” means “no downtime”. It only means the domain can still be renewed normally.
  • Renewing too late and being forced to pay RM300 redemption fee.
  • Not updating administrative contact email, resulting in missed renewal notices.

4. Responsibility Breakdown (Client & iCoreHosting)

Client Responsibilities

  • Track domain expiry dates.
  • Ensure payments for renewal are made on time.
  • Maintain accurate administrative email & contact details.
  • Provide timely instructions to renew or let expire.

iCoreHosting Responsibilities

  • Send renewal reminders via email (subject to correct contact provided).
  • Assist in MYNIC portal access recovery if documents are available.
  • Follow MYNIC’s official pricing (including redemption fee).
  • Provide transparent guidance on domain lifecycle behaviour.

Note: MYNIC registry rules override all registrar actions.

6. FAQ

Q1: Will my website still work during grace period?
A: Not guaranteed. MYNIC may suspend services immediately after expiry.

Q2: Can iCoreHosting waive the RM300 redemption fee?
A: No. This fee is fixed by MYNIC and applies to all registrars.

Q3: Can I recover my domain after it is deleted?
A: No. After deletion, anyone can register it.

Q4: How long is the full lifecycle?
A: Typically around 65 days after expiry (30-day grace + 30-day redemption + ~5-day pending delete).

7. Summary

  • Renew MYNIC domains before expiry to avoid interruption.
  • Grace period does not guarantee website/email continuity.
  • Redemption fee is RM300 + renewal, fixed by MYNIC.
  • Deleted domains can be registered by anyone.

8. Use Case Example

Scenario: A client forgot to renew a .com.my domain. On the next morning, their email and website stopped working.

Outcome: Domain had expired at 12:00AM and MYNIC suspended DNS. Client renewed during grace period and services resumed.

Lesson: MYNIC does not guarantee operation during grace. Clients should renew early.
