Configure Outlook IMAP for Direct Mail Server Connection
Simple Answer:
If you want Outlook to connect directly to your iCoreHosting mail server instead of routing through Microsoft cloud servers, configure your email account using a standard IMAP connection. This helps ensure your mail client connects directly from your device.
Important Note
The new Microsoft Outlook (Windows and Mac) may synchronize your mailbox through Microsoft cloud services. As a result, your mail server may see connections from Microsoft IP addresses instead of your own device. This is expected behavior.
Recommended IMAP Settings
- Email Address: [email protected]
- Incoming Server (IMAP): mail.yourdomain.com
- Port: 993
- Encryption: SSL/TLS
- Outgoing Server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com
- Port: 465 (SSL/TLS) or 587 (STARTTLS)
- Authentication: Required using your full email address and password
What You Need To Do
- Configure your mailbox as a standard IMAP account using the settings above.
- Use Microsoft Outlook Classic if you want Outlook to connect directly to your mail server.
- Alternatively, use another IMAP client such as Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail, or the built in iPhone or Android Mail app.
Common Mistake
Many users install the new Microsoft Outlook and expect it to behave like Outlook Classic. The new Outlook may synchronize email through Microsoft cloud services, causing login records to show Microsoft IP addresses instead of your local internet connection.
When To Contact Support
Contact iCoreHosting Support if you need help configuring your IMAP settings, or if you are unsure whether your email client is connecting directly to our mail server.
Summary
For a direct connection to your iCoreHosting mail server, use a standard IMAP account with Outlook Classic or another traditional IMAP email client instead of the new Microsoft Outlook cloud synchronization feature.
